PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE AUTOMOTIVE X PRIZE


The goal of the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE is to inspire a new generation of viable, super fuel-efficient vehicles that will help break our addition to oil and stem the effects of climate change. Ten million dollars in prizes will be awarded to the teams that win a stage race for clean, production-capable vehicles that exceed 100 MPGe (miles per gallon or its equivalent).

The Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE will place a major focus on affordability, safety, and the environment. The competition is about developing real, production-capable cars that consumers want to buy – not science projects or concept cars. This progress is needed because today’s oil consumption is unsustainable and because automotive emissions significantly contribute to global warming and climate change. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The main function of the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE Web Producer is to curate, aggregate, and create high quality content that is organized and accessible through our websites and social media services. In addition, the position will also provide for the advocating, educating, and coordinating the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE teams in the use, development, and posting of digital content to various sites, using various tools and managing those assets to maximize exposure and branding of the competition. The key responsibilities of this job are the following:

Lead the maintenance and growth of a compelling, interactive, and viral online experience that will provide comprehensive online resources, content, games, and social networking tools made easily accessible to students, parents, teachers, and all individuals who have a curiosity to learn more about issues surrounding the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE
Maintaining the content management system for creating and publishing of online content
With web production and technical team resources, work with contractors to refine specifications for vehicle telemetry data for a telemetry-based online experience and for a virtual online eco-feedback indicator
Oversee and coordinate the work of multiple contractors and consultants involved with the development and implementation of Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE online education programs, ranging from web developers to designers and communications firms to key education groups
Guide and assist teams in creating and posting content in the form of blogs, video, images, and other rich multi-media
Production of new content, updates, and maintenance of FuelOurFutureNow.com and the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE website
Monitoring and posting of internal and relevant content related to the prize by utilizing Twitter, Facebook, and a variety of other social media networks
Regular creation and publishing of original content, including but not limited to videos, blogs, and photos
Act as conduit between competing student teams, Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE competition entrants, and the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE team…communicating progress, needs, and information between the groups
Analyze and report web and social analytics data and develop strategies for maximizing effectiveness and ROI of these media
Act as an online face of the prize, advocating and evangelizing incentive prize competitions as an effective method of tackling the world’s grand challenges with a strong sense of branding and online promotion, a passion for the automotive industry and a desire to change the world


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

2-5 years of extensive experience using social media for promotion and community building
Familiarity with content management systems and website production processes
Knowledge of using a multitude of social medial tools and services including YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and other online platforms
Strong business writing and professional verbal communication skills
Experience effectively managing a geographically-dispersed team consisting primarily of sub-contractors and vendors
Experience writing for and managing blogs
On the cutting edge of new media and promotion; utilizes the latest and greatest tools to create a fun and exciting brand experience
Proven experience generating excitement and brand loyalty in online communities
Self-starter that can thrive in an innovative, unique, and rapidly changing workplace
HTML / CSS experience

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience using Drupal
Javascript, PHP, AJAX, or other exposure/experience
B.S. in Computer Science, Marketing, PR, or related
At least two years of experience with online or software-based education, especially in a product management capacity
Skill in interacting with all levels of business people and with government agencies and education institutions
Insight into the math and science behind efficient vehicle development as well as environmental and alternative fuel trends and forecasts
Prior work or knowledge of the automotive industry
