Position: Interaction Designer
Reports to: Creative Director
Focus Areas: User interface/Interaction design, Architecture, Design
Position Summary:
You will design compelling customer experiences by: modeling the user interface (e.g., page-level wireframes, interaction design diagrams, site maps, etc.); working with Web Producers to create prototypes of the user interface; producing interface design documentation (e.g., project design specifications, functional descriptions, and visual documents that convey user movement); and delivering visual design specifications for the final product that are based on the CNET and CBS News.com branded styles. You will also assist in ensuring the consistency of CBSNews.com and CNET’s branded online presence
Responsibilities:
· Creation of visual design for assigned web projects including: wireframes, visual interface design systems and elements, and other graphical needs.
· Collaborate with UX team members and other cross-functional teams to translate stated strategic and customer experience objectives into new site pages and/or effective design solutions.
· Research the competitive landscape and make recommendations relating to online product organization, information hierarchy, and user task flow.
· Design ongoing website updates (product updates, special features, new promotions, theme-based graphics, and other necessary graphical maintenance)
· Assist in the production management and/or archive of graphical production art, source files, template files and other related graphical assets.
· Design e-newsletters and other marketing communications or support graphics as needed.
· Stay up-to-date on industry standards and best practices.
Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in either Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Industrial Design, Interface Design,behavioral science or closely related discipline such as Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Psychology (Cognitive or Experimental), or Computer Science.
· 6+ years of experience as a user experience practitioner either “in-house” or an agency environment.
· Demonstrated ability to balance rigorous attention to detail with strategic “big-picture” thinking.
· Strong visual design, layout and typographic skills with a sharp attention to detail; portfolio review required.
· Production skills including graphic optimization and asset management.
· Strong knowledge of CSS, visual styles to AJAX based interface conventions are required.
· Demonstrated understanding of user-centered design, web usability principles, information architecture, principles of graphic user interface (GUI) design, capabilities of different platforms/browsers, design constraints on the web. Knowledge of content management systems a plus.
· Demonstrated ability to work on multi-disciplinary teams that include project managers, designers, writers, information architects, business leaders, production artists and technical engineers.
· Strong team collaboration and interpersonal skills.
· Strong oral and written communication skills for effective communication to User Experience practice members, cross-functional team members and outside vendors and consultants.
· Organizational, analytical, conceptual and problem solving skills.
· Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
· A portfolio that shows an ability to deliver both IA and visual design.
Computer Experience:
· Proficiency in Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, MS Office software, ImageReady, Visio, and Acrobat Distiller. Knowledge of InDesign CS a plus.
· Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for prototyping a plus.
· Operating System: Mac OS X (preferred) or Windows XP.
